Retirement Planning
Retirement planning focuses on creating the lifestyle you want after your last day of work. In essence you are going on one “long” vacation. In order to do that you need to have saved up enough money so that it will produce an income for you for the rest of your life no matter how long you live. Our method of retirement planning involves estimating you life time expenses and then calculating the amount you will need to pay for them. We then put a plan together made up of numerous moving parts that may include stocks, bonds, mutual funds, variable annuities, insurance etc. The key here is the strategies need to support the overall goal.

Wealth management in simple terms is taking a holistic perspective on your entire financial picture. Many firms/banks take a look at what you have and offer you something they say is better. We think this approach is shallow. Before we share any strategies with you we take you through a process of information gathering, risk assessment, and goal setting. We take this approach with every investor whether it’s the small investor wishing to invest a few thousand in mutual funds or the sophisticated investor that needs a complex estate plan with many facets to include tax, legal, and financial factors. We seek first to understand your unique situation with our fact finding process before we ever start sharing possible solutions with you. When we do start sharing financial strategies with you we design those strategies so they harmonize and optimize both your tax and legal planning. We do not practice law or tax preparation. However we have facilitators on our staff to include an attorney and tax specialist that can work with your legal and tax team or recommend one to you.

Risk Tolerance The extent to wish an investor is willing to accept more risk in exchange for the possibility of a higher return. An investor with a high risk tolerance is likely to invest in securities, such as stocks in startup and growth companies, and is willing to accept the possibility that the value of his/her portfolio can be volatile in both upward and downward movements . An investor with a low risk tolerance, on the other hand, tends to invest predominantly in stable stocks and/or highly-graded bonds. One's risk tolerance is subjective and may vary according to age, needs, goals, and even personal dispositions.

A less sophisticated test is – are you losing sleep over your investments. If you are then in most cases your current investment allocation does not mesh with your risk tolerance.

Another consideration is two spouses may have different tolerances for risk. In this case it is good to know how different their tolerance is so it can be addressed.
